In Philippine Mythology, Lakapati was the kind-hearted and genderless deity of fertility- They identified as neither man or woman and was once thought to be the one responsible for teaching mankind the knowledge of agriculture. They are married to Mapulon, a doting husband, who is the god of medicine.

  2. As the last hours of 2018 finally sets in, I am looking back with a big smile and for what is coming ahead in the new year. This year was HUGE for me. I can only really highlight the ones that are obvious like turning 30, and also celebrating keeping our daughter alive for a whole year. There were many little happy moments that only made me more of a mother as I was previously. I am enjoying guiding a little person to become the best they can be. A lot of lessons learned as a first time mum and already a lot of regret, but I am so lucky to be where I am.

So there are only 2 challenges for myself in the new year: 1) Focus on myself again and 2) Reduce our waste this year.

Going back to work during my first year of motherhood was a dark and difficult time. While there were also some big things happening at work, my sanity was tested everyday with the lack of sleep and anxiety, along with my increasing appetite and of course weight! My self-esteem had spiraled down. I attempt to make time to work out and socialize but I have no energy left after parenting and working full time. Hence the first challenge, so I can be the best parent I can be to my child. I have to be healthier, happier, more fit, and stronger.

The second challenge really is just to keep our waste as minimal as possible. I told J that I was starting a worm farm in the new year to reduce any compostable food waste. I had also started to plan a wardrobe detox in hoping to minimise items in my wardrobe down to essentials and high quality products. I suppose this has been my challenge the last few years but needing more of a cemented approach with a more visible and bigger impact. My biggest regret in the last year was using disposable nappies for K and not trying harder. But now I know the work to put in vs. convenience and it is not so bad. Perhaps when we have the next I am more equipped to go the right way.

Anyway, this post was meant to be a short one. But before I end this post, I just wanted to say that I wouldn’t have made it through the year without my colleagues who kept me focused and really listened to my troubles, my friends who had always been there and continue to be even through my transition into parenthood, my parents and family who never leave my side and are so so supportive. I love you all and my heart only grows bigger every year.

Also(!) the really awesome part of this update is to brag that I am off work the whole month of January and can give K an awesome summer experience! I’m so lucky to start the year like this!

    Let’s go!
